How it's done

Rolled on site

A van-mounted machine forms the gutter from a coil of powder-coated aluminium, cut to the length of each side of the house. Corners and outlets are the only joints, sealed and riveted. Anthracite, black and white are the usual colours.

Worth it?

When aluminium pays

On a long run, a three-storey house where access is dear, or a house you're staying in. On a small terrace, uPVC at €600 to €1,900 for a semi is usually the sensible choice. On the front of a protected structure, cast iron is expected.
