What goes wrong
Five faults, and the fix
- A dripping joint. The rubber seal in the union has hardened. A new union or seal.
- A sagging run. A bracket has broken or pulled out. A new bracket, or two.
- Water over the front. The outlet or downpipe is blocked, or the run has lost its fall. Clear it, or reset the brackets.
- A crack. Brittle old plastic. A section replaced.
- Screws pulling out. The fascia behind is soft. The board needs fixing first; see gutters and fascia.

If the joints drip all along the run, the seals have aged together and the next one will go soon. Three repair visits at €80 to €450 come close to new uPVC gutters on a semi at €600 to €1,900. Ask for both prices.
